F o rc es and Government a g e n c ie s would b eg in a n in e m onths' c o u rse

tomorrow (Monday, 19th) to stu d y some o f th e problem s connected w ith

i n d u s t r i a l su p p o rt o f A u s t r a l i a 's d efen ce e f f o r t .

Next month a s im ila r c o u rse w ill commence f o r 36 New South

Wales r e p r e s e n t a t i v e s .

Mr. F a i r h a l l s a id t h e i r l e c t u r e s and d is c u s s io n s would be

a g a in s t a background o f S e rv ic e l i f e .

The M in is te r f o r th e Navy (Mr. D. C h ip p ) w i l l o f f i c i a l l y

open th e V ic to r ia n Course tom orrow, and th e r e p r e s e n ta ti v e s w i l l

l i v e - i n a t th e 6 th S ig n a l R egim ent, W atsonia, V ic t o r ia , and l a t e r

in th e y e a r th e y w i l l spend a n o th e r week a t th e N aval t r a i n i n g

s t a t i o n H.M.A.S. CER.BERUS, W e ste rn p o rt.

The rem ain d er o f th e c o u rse w i l l be on a p a r t- tim e b a s i s ,

c o n s is tin g o f evening l e c t u r e s on a com prehensive range o f s u b je c ts ,

d is c u s s io n p e rio d s and v i s i t s to s e le c te d i n d u s t r i a l p l a n t s . '

The i n d u s t r i a l m o b ilis a tio n co u rse f o r 36 NSW r e p r e s e n ta ­

t i v e s w ill be o f f i c i a l l y opened by th e M in is te r f o r D efence,

Mr. F a i r h a l l , a t th e 10 Task F o rc e, H olsw orthy B a rra c k s, NSW, on

March 4. L a te r in th e y e a r th o s e a tte n d in g w i l l spend a week a t

th e RAAF B ase, Richmond, NSW.

Next August a s p e c ia l co u rse l a s t i n g one week w i l l be h e ld

in South A u s tr a li a m ainly f o r r e p r e s e n ta ti v e s o f South A u s tr a lia n

i n d u s t r i e s .

W estern A u s t r a l i a over r e c e n t y e a rs and have been w e ll r e c e iv e d .

Mr. F a i r h a l l s a id th e c o u rse s were aimed a t m a in ta in in g

c lo s e c o - o p e r a tio n betw een A u s tr a lia n in d u s tr y and th e Armed F o rc e s.

They p ro v id ed an o p p o rtu n ity f o r i n d u s t r i a l i s t s to a c q u a in t them­

s e lv e s w ith p r e s e n t and f u tu r e needs o f th e -Services and f o r defen ce

a u t h o r i t i e s to gauge what c o n t r ib u t io n in d u s tr y co u ld make to

A u s t r a l i a ’ s d e fe n c e .

' The knowledge gained by th o se ta k in g p a r t in th e c o u rse s

would be most v a lu a b le and would en su re f l e x i b i l i t y in in d u s tr y

aimed a t m eetin g th e v a rie d re q u ire m e n ts o f th e Armed F o rc e s.
