DEPARTMENT OF CUSTOMS AivD EXCISE

The Minister for Customs and Excise, Senator Malcolm

Scott, will inspect Customs installations in the Melbourne area

on Friday, 15th March, 1968. .

He will visit the Melbourne and Williamstown Customs

Houses, Essendon Airport and make a tour of the Melbourne Port.

This will be the Minister's second.tour of Customs

installations. On 7th and 8th March he visited the installations

at Sydney and also visited the Film Censorship Board.

Senator Scott hopes to visit all main installations of

the Department of Customs and Excise in the near future.

While in Sydney, the Minister inspected the Harbour

from one of the Department's high-speed patrol boats, which he

subsequently formally named "Akuna"ยป an Aboriginal word meaning

"fast flowing water".

The Department so far has four high-speed patrol boats,

one of which will be based at each of Sydney, Melbourne, Darwin

and Gladstone ports.

Four more boats are to be ordered, of which one will be

based at Fremantle, Western Australia.

The vessels Are equipped with two inboard/outboard

engines.
