Extension of A3G FM Services

The' Australian Broadcasting Commission"FM Service"'"is -td" -go to

air in Ballarat ’ on February 1..... . * *.. ~

This was announced today by the Acting-Minister- for~ Communications

Mr Peacock'. .. . ■ ■ . · ■ ■ · - — - ;

. Mr Peacock, said that the. national FM program would be transmitted

• from the Adelaide studios of the A B C . ■ -

The National FM;.Service which was presently being-received in

all State capitals except Darwin, was aiso "available- in"

Newcastle and was expected to be available, "in Banbury and .

Mr Gambier within the next few w e e k s , Mr Peacock said . . .

The Acting Minister said that the ABC FM Service brought :an

added dimension to radio by providing listeners with', fine -music

and other programs where high quality sound was important... .

In conclusion,Mr Peacock said that the transmitter at Ballarat t . S ·

would be located on Lookout Hill at the site of the national

television transmitter and would operate on a frequency of

105.3 'MHz. ' "
