STATEMENT FOR PRESS

THE MINISTER FOR THE

CAPITAL TERRITORY

A .new series of proposed changes to the Canberra City Plan was announced

today by the Minister for the Capital Territory, Mr Tony Staley. -

There are 29 proposed changes to the plan published today, in a

periodic issue of the,Australian Government Gazette, including changes

within the industrial areas at Mitchell and Fyshwick, new medium density

housing areas at Belconnen, Cook and Holder, standard housing development

areas at Stirling, · Wanniassa, Chisholm and Theodore and a bicycle path

from Acton·to Telopea Park.

Mr Staley said objections to any of the proposals should be forwarded

to the Department of the Capital Territory by 4.30 p.m. on 2 May 1977.

Any objections would be forwarded to the Parliamentary Joint Committee

on the ACT which would examine all of the proposals and report to

Parliament before any of the changes took effect.

The proposed changes will be available for inspection from tomorrow

at the Department's information centre, London Circuit, City.
