STATE SUMMARY

The Minister for Aviation, Mr Wal Fife, today-

announced that the Federal Government had approved airport

development programs in Queensland.estimated to cost some

... $300 m over the next four years.. . ·

" ' He said the value of airport programs in Queensland

represented more than 50 per cent of the total national airports

program as announced in the Budget.

"A large component of the Queensland figure; is for

further work on the new Brisbane. Airport," Mr Fife said.

"Major works will also be funded for Cairns, Townsville,

Coolangatta, Maroochydore, Bundaberg and Archerfield Airports."

. . "These are significant elements of the most.ambitious

airport development program in Australia's history."r

"They should prove to; be a major boost to tourism

in Queensland which promises tremendous growth over this decade

with many new international services and destinations opening up."

"Airport works should also provide important stimulation

for industry and provide significant new job opportunities in

Queensland." '

Mr Fife said expenditure in Queensland in 1982/83

would total more than $80 million.

- Brisbane, $62.5 m in 1982/83 to continue * t h e . ! ] '

dredging and redevelopment now underway·and provide

for a new terminal, aircraft parking aprons and commence­

ment of runway and taxiway development :

- Cairns, $12.5 m allocated to the Cairns ^ort Authority

Townsville, $4.5 m approved to complete the

upgrading works for international services '

: in addition to $5.6 m previous expenditure

Townsville, $3.6 m approved for the expansion and I

improvement of the existing domestic terminal ■ i

Archerfield, $0.6 m in 1982/83 to upgrade existing

sealed and grass runways and associated drainage

works l

: total cost $1.2 m to be spent over the next two years

Coolangatta, $1.8 m in 1982/83 to allow for the

completion of work at Coolangatta Airport for wide bodied

jet operations s

Maroochydore, $1.5 m in 1982/83 to develop the aerodrome

for F28 services j
