PRESS RELEASE P R IM A R Y B IN D U S T R Y IDAIRYING RESEARCH STATEMENT BY

THE MINISTER FOR PRIMARY INDUSTRY

CANBERRA

Senator Ken Wriedt, Australian Minister for

Agriculture, announced to-day that he had approved

additional expenditure from the Dairying Research Trust

Account to finance two cheese marketing surveys in

1974-75. One of the projects is designed to study

household consumption of cheese and the other will

concentrate on the demands for cheese by industrial

users.

The demand for cheese has been stimulated in

recent years and Australian production has increased

significantly. It is expected that this production

trend will continue, so that expanding local and export

markets can be satisfied. The greater demand has enabled

Australian cheese manufacturers to produce a wider range

of varieties than previously. It is essential, therefore,

that marketing information be comprehensive and abreast

of current trends.

"The results of both the marketing surveys will

indicate consumers' present and future requirements of

cheese and assist the dairy industry to take decisions

to meet these requirements", said Senator Wriedt.
