PRIMARYBINDUSTRY STATEMENT BY THE MINISTER FOR PRIMARY INDUSTRY

CANBERRA 2/7/74

AUSTRALIAN WHEAT BOARD'ELECTIONS

The Minister for Agriculture, Senator Ken Wriedt, today

outlined arrangements for the coming election of some grower members

of the Australian Wheat Board.

Senator Wriedt said that the present term of office of all

members of the Australian Wheat Board will end on 26 October 1974, The

relevant legislation provides for the election of two growers'

representatives from each of the State of New South Wales, Victoria

and South Australia. As notified in the Australian Government Gazette

of 2 July 1974 nominations of candidates for election will close on

30 July 1974 at the Australian Electoral Office in each of the three

States. Australian Electoral Officers in the respective States will

be responsible for the conduct of a postal ballot if more than two

nominations are received in any State. The poll will close on 1 October

1974.

There will not be a ballot in the States of Queensland and

Western Australia as the two grower members from each of these States

are nominated by the respective State Boards. It is expected that

in due course these Boards will make the usual arrangments for

nominating their representatives.

Senator Wriedt said that the membership of the Board for

the ensuring three year term of office would be announced in October.
