APPOINTMENT O F MEMBER OF ABORIGINAL· DEVELOPMENT COMMISSION

The Minister for Aboriginal Affairs, Mr Ian Wilson, today announced the appointment of Mrs Shirley Anne McPherson, of Geraldton, Western Australia, to fill a vacancy in the membership of the Aboriginal Development Commission (ADC).

Mr Wilson said Mrs McPherson's appointment as a part-time Commissioner would be until 30 June 1984.

Mrs McPherson is a qualified accountant, registered tax agent and a member of the Australian Society of Accountants. She operates and manages a successful and expanding liquor and general supplies store in Geraldton.

"Mrs McPherson's knowledge of economics and her practical experience in small business make her highly qualified for the job she has before her on the Commission," Mr Wilson said.

There are ten Commissioners on the ADC, which this financial year has $59·5m available to spend. The ADC acquires land for Aboriginal communities and groups, lends money and makes grants to Aboriginals for housing and personal purposes,

and finances business enterprises.

Mr Wilson said Mrs McPherson's geographical location, in southern Western Australia, would give Western Australian Aboriginals more ready access to an ADC Commissioner than previously. .
