UNITES SPATES DEFENCE PROCUREMENT MISSION TO VISIT AUSTRALIA

(Statement by the Minister for Defence, the Hon.

Allen Fairhall, M . P .) ·

A group of 10 senior US Government officials will visit Australia from October 26 to November 1 to discuss Australian participation in US defence contracts,

The Minister for Defence , Mr. Allen Fairhall, said in Canberra today the purpose of the meeting was to find opportunities where Australian manufacturers could participate, on a competitive basis, in US defence contracts and sub-contracts as a means of helping to offset Australian

expenditure in the US.

This is the first of such meetings to be held in Australia between officials of both countries since Mr. Fairhall1s earlier discussions on such subjects with the US Secretary of Defense.

In addition to official talks in Canberra, the party will visit industry at Port Kembla, Sydney and Melbourne. The mission will be led by Mr. Glenn V. Gibson, Deputy Assistant Secretary (Installations and Logistics) of the '

Department of Defense.
