(Statement .by the Minister for Defence., Hon. Allen Fairhall, HP.)

The Minister, for. Defence, Mr. Allen Fairhall, said

today that a group of 18 students and faculty members·· of the

United States Industrial College of the Armed Forces would

make a one week visit to Australia later this month.

During the early portion of their visit in Sydney, where 1

they arrive on 8th May, they will meet New South Wales members

of the Australian Industrial Mobilisation Course. 'When in

Canberra from 12th to 15th May the visitors will be briefed by the

Departments of. Defence, External Affairs, Treasury, Trade and

Industry and Rational Development and visit the Defence Space

Tracking Station at Tidbinbilla.

The Industrial College conducts annual 10 month resident

courses in the economic and industrial aspects of national

security and the management of resources under all conditions. ■


It is one of·the highest level joint educational .

institutions of the United States military Services, operating

under the direction of the Joint Chiefs of Staff.

The visit to Australia is part of the College’s'annual

International Field Studies Programme.

This is the fourth time Australia had.been host to the

College,, previous visits being in 1963, 1964 and 1965·

Mr. Fairhall said that the visit was welcomed and should

add to the close and-cordial relationships which already existed

between Australia and the United States.
