RAAF TO HELP BUILD LOCAL SCHOOL IN VIETNAM

The RAAF in Vietnam has won approval to spend

500,000 piastres, (about 5000 dollars) on the Building of four

new classrooms for a high school in the coastal town of Vung Tau.

The rooms are part of a complex to provide the towns

poorer children of all denominations with free schooling from

primary level to leaving.

Money for the project has been allocated by the

Australian Department of External Affairs and distributed through

the First Australian Civil Aid Unit at Nui Dat.

Work is expected to begin soon. Local labour will

be used in the building, although RAAF working bees will be

organised for specific tasks where necessary.

The RAAF will obtain the sand, gravel and re-inforcings

for the structure. Other materials will be bought locally.

About 400 RAAF' personnel are based at Vung Tau.
