PRIONS IN SALUTE AND FAREWELL TO SYDNEY

Three RAAF Maritime Reconnaissance Orion aircraft will

fly in formation over Sydney on Monday, May 13th, in a salute to

the city and a farewell by No. 11 Squadron which is leaving the

Sydney area.

The three Orions will fly over Sydney while en route

from Nandi (Fiji) to Edinburgh on their delivery flight from the

United States west coast via Honolulu.

The Minister for Air (Mr Gordon Freeth) and the RAAF

Chief of the Air Staff (Air Marshal Sir Alister Murdoch) will be

at Edinburgh for the arrival of the Orions.

' No. 11 Squadron, which is in process of being re-equipped

and converted in the United States to Orion aircraft will move from

RAAF Base Richmond to RAAF Base Edinburgh concurrently with the

delivery of the Orion aircraft from the United States.

The aircraft are expected to fly in formation over

Sydney between approximately 12.11 p.m. and 12.31 p.m.

The Orions, which are carrying many squadron ground

staff returning from training at Moffett US Naval Station in

California will then fly over their former home base, Richmond,

between 12.38 p.m. and 12.53 p.m. before setting course for Edinburgh

where they are scheduled to land at 3 p.m. (Adelaide time).

Before landing at Edinburgh the three Orions will fly­

over Adelaide.
