SIDDONS CALLS FOR TEMPORARY IMPORT CONTROLS

Australian Democrat, Senator John Siddons, today called for

Senator Siddons said that unless imports were cut, Australia

risked international bankruptcy.

"We are simply buying more from overseas than we can

afford. We are also allowing too much out of the country

in the form of so-called 'invisibles' - transport costs,

insurance, dividends and repatriated profits.

"We must 'buy back Australia' while we.still have the

money," he added. . . .

"We should use the respite to build new and dynamic

high technology industries to create thousands of new

jobs."
