MORE THAN 550 APPLICATIONS FROM LAWYERS

The Australian Legal Aid Office has had a good

response to a recent advertisement for lawyers. It was

seeking to recruit a total of 52 lawyers throughout

Australia. More than 350 applications have so far been

received. .

In New South Wales alone where the Office was

· . seeking 18 lawyers more than 150 applications were received. t ·

' The salaries range from $7,097 to $17,776

depending on the qualifications and experience of the lawyer

Mr J. P. Harkins, National Director of the

Australian Legal Aid Office, said today, that since the

Australian Attorney-General established the Office last year

growing interest in the role of the Australian Legal Aid

Office by members of the profession has been shown.

Mr Harkins said -, Ά distinguishing mark of lawyers joining the Australian

Legal Aid Office is their appreciation of the law as

one of the social sciences and their concern for

. applying the law to assist people to solve their

problems. They can be properly described as .

"Social Scientists"*. ·

today announced the appointment of a leading Queensland
