STATEMENT BY THE COMMONWEALTH ATTORNEY-GENERAL, MR, T.E.F. HUGHES, Q.C.

The Commonwealth Attorney-General, Mr. T.E.E, Hughes,

Q.C., said today.that Mr. Justice Sweeney, the new.Federal Judge in Bankruptcy, had resigned his commission as a Judge of the Supreme Court of the Northern Territory.

Mr. Justice Sweeney was appointed the Federal Judge in Bankruptcy on October 22 this year. While resigning his office as a Judge of the Commonwealth Industrial Court he had retained his other Commonwealth appointments which

included the appointment as a Judge of the Supreme Court of the Northern Territory,

The Attorney-General said Mr. Justice Sweeney would normally take all the bankruptcy business in New South Wales, Victoria and the Australian Capital Territory.

This work would-require his continuous presence in the ' Eastern States,. Mr. Hughes said,
