SOLDIER WOUNDED ACCIDENTALLY

An Australian soldier was accidentally wounded in action yesterday

(June 15) in Phuoc Tuy Province, South Vietnam.

The soldier was wounded by gunfire when two Australian patrols clashed

He is Private E.A. Birch, of Leichhardt, NSW, a member of 2nd ·

Battalion, The Royal Australian Regiment. .

Private Birch has been evacuated to 1st Australian Field Hospital,

Vung Tau, where he is in a very serious condition.

An investigation into the accident will be held.

Army Headquarters has today released the name of another soldier

who was wounded by shrapnel on Sunday, June 14, when an armoured personnel

carrier detonated an enemy mine in Phuoc Tuy Province. ·

His name was withheld until next of kin could,be contacted.

The soldier is Private B.W. Flockhart, of Heidelberg, Vic, a member

of 7th Battalion, The Royal Australian Regiment. -

He is in 1st Australian Field Hospital in a satisfactory condition.

Next of kin have been advised. '
