. IMMEDIATE RELEASE.

HONG KONG EASTER FOR R.A.N.

Some 2,400 officers and men of the

Royal Australian Navy will spend most of Easter in Hong

Kong. They are serving in six ships of Australia's Combat

Fleet at present on duty in South East Asia.

The Minister for the Navy, Senator

Gorton, said today that the flagship, H.M.A.S. MELBOURNE,

tvv ^ destroyers, VOYAGER and VAMPIRE, two frigates, PARRAMATTA

and YARRA, and the Fleet tanker, SUPPLY, were in Hong Kong

for a routine maintenance· period.

The force is due to sail on Monday to

continue its exercise programme in South East.Asian waters.. · ' · . · · z

MELBOURNE, accompanied by VOYAGER and VAMPIRE, will sail for

Singapore, while PARRAMATTA, YARRA and SUPPLY will set course

for the Philippines. Both Australian task groups will take

part in an international exercise later this month.

r ■ H.M.A.S. MELBOURNE, which is under the

command of Captain R.I. Peek, is wearing the flag of the Flag

Officer Commanding the Australian Fleet, Rear Admiral Alan

McNicoll. The other commanding officers in the Australian

force are VOYAGER (Captain D.H. Stevens), VAMPIRE (Captain

G.J. Willis), PARRAMATTA (Captain B.S. Murray), YARRA (Com­

mander N.A. Boase) and SUPPLY (Captain G.V. Gladstone).
