Radiotelephone Service to Lae

The Postmaster-General (Mr. Davidson) announced, today that the

Australian Post Office, in conjunction with the Overseas Telecommunications

Commission (Australia) has made arrangements to establish, a direct radio­

telephone service between Australia and Lae in the Territory of New Guinea,

on and from the 8th April, 1963· The opening of the new direct, link, which

will replace the present switched service via Port Moresby, should improve

the quality of service on this route·

Mr. Davidson said that service will be available between 10.15 a.m.

and 11.45 a.m. E.A.S.T. Monday to Saturday. The charge for the calls will

remain the same at 10/- per minute with a minimum of three minutes for each

call. ■ '
