IMMEDIATE RELEASE.

. ' WARSHIPS READY FOR ROYAL DEPARTURE.

' The Minister for the Navy, Senator Gorton,

said today that two Australian warships were preparing to

take up positions in the Pacific for the Queen's flight

from Sydney to Fiji on Wednesday.

H.M.A.S. QUEENBOROUGH has already sailed

from Sydney to take up her station off the east coast of

Noumea·. H.M.A.S, QUICKMATCH will sail tomorrow (Tuesday)

and v/ill he on the flight path near Lord Howe Island.

The ships will keep constant watch on the

sec„rch and rescue radio frequences during the Royal Flight.

QUEENBOROUGH is under the command of .

Lieutenant-Commander F.R. Woods, R.A.N., while the captain

of QUICKMATCH is Lieutenant-Commander C.H.C. Spurgeon, R.A.N.

Meanwhile, the Battle Class destroyer, H.M.A.S.

ANZAC, has completed her five weeks of duty as escort to the

Royal Yacht, BRITANNIA.

Before arriving in Fremantle today, ANZAC

(Commander D.A.H. Clarke, D.S.C.), paid an official farewell

to the Queen. The destroyer steamed alongside BRITANNIA

while the Australian officers and ratings manned ship and

gave three cheers for Her Majesty. '
