Statement 1:.y the Attorney-General, The Hon» Sir Garfield ----- Berwick.

The Commonwealth Attorney-General, Sir Garfield Berwick,

said todaj?· that following upon an arrangement made 'by the

Prime Minister during the discussions last month with Industry on the state of the economy generally, he had

seen representatives of the Associated Chambers of

Manufacturers of Australia, the Associated Chambers of

Commerce of Australia, the Australian Council of Retailers,

the Australian Woolgrowers’ and Graziers’ Council, the Australian Primary Producers’ Union, the National Farmers’

Union of Australia, the Australian Wool and Meat Producers’

Federation, the Australian Bankers’ Association, the Master Builders’ Federation of Australia, and the Federal Chamber of Automotive Industries, in order to afford any

explanations and clarifications of the Government’s proposals with respect to restrictive trade practices which

they might seek and also to hear criticisms or suggestions

for change. There was a useful exchange of views, and Sir Garfield said he had undertaken to consider carefully

the representations made, and yet to be made, to him on behalf of the various bodies represented.
