. . IMMEDIATE RELEASE.

■ . NAVY ALERTED FOR ROYAL FLIGHT.

Australian Naval ships will be alerted next week while

the Qantas flight carrying the Duke of Edinburgh is flying across

the Pacific from Fiji. .

The Minister for the Navy, Senator Gorton, said today

that this was a normal precautionary measure taken at the request

of the Department of Civil Aviation. ■

The three Navy ships to be alerted are the destroyer,

VOYAGER, and survey ships WARREGO and BARCOO. VOYAGER and BARCOO

will be in Sydney, while WARREGO will be surveying on the

north coast of New South Wales.

The three ships will be at immediate notice for full speed,

and will keep watch on appropriate radio frequencies.

The Duke of Edinburgh is due in Sydney on Tuesday on his

way to Perth to open the Commonwealth Games. . .
