PENSION DISADVANTAGE OVERCOME

The Minister for Repatriation, Mr. R.W. Swartz,

today introduced a Bill into the House of Representatives to

remove an amonaly in the commencement date of pensions granted

on appeal. ,

He said the new legislation would remove any

disadvantage to ex-servicemen whose claim for a Repatriation

"benefit was upheld "by the Repatriation Commission or a War

Pensions Entitlement Appeal Tribunal. . .

At present neither the Commissionrpr the Tribunals

can fix a commencement date for pension.payments as early as

a Repatriation Board. .

Each of the avenues of appeal open to ex-servicemen

has in practice a different limit on the time to which.pensions._

can be back-dated.

The new legislation would provide a uniform starting

date for pensions irrespective of whether a claim was accepted in

the first instance or after appeal.
