New trade commissioner appointed

NEW TRADE COMMISSIONER APPOINTED

(Statement by the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Trade, the Rt. Hon. J. McEwen)

Mr Alasdair MacRae, a well-known Sydney businessman, has

been appointed as Australian Government Trade Commissioner, San

Francisco, the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Trade, Mr J.1

McEwen, announced today. ■

Mr MacRae will take up the appointment early next year.

He will replace Mr B.T. Connolly who will return to Australia

before taking up the post of Australian Government Trade Commissioner,

Athens.

Mr MacRae is the Deputy Chairman, General Management Division

of the Australian Institute of'Management, and a member of the

Australian Association of National Advertisers. He has had considerable

business experience in the area.

Mr McEwen said that the appointment of Mr MacRae was in line

with the established policy of the Government in appointing to the '

Trade Commissioner Service the best available men from both industry

and the Government Service. '

He said that the West Coast of the United States offered a

valuable and growing market for a wide range of Australian

manufactured goods and foodstuffs. .
