A total of 5,700 people from Britain travelling

under the £10 assisted passage programme will he on their way

to Australia in eight ships and six aircraft on Christmas -Day,

' - The majority - 5,500 - will he travelling aboard the

liners "Fairsea", "Flavia", "Himalaya", "Fair Star", "Cas-tel ....

Felice", "Ellinus", "Aurelia" and "Oriana". The additional

200 will be travelling by ‘plane.

These departures, together with the sailing of the

liner "Fair Sky" from Southampton on December 27 with 1,200 British

assisted migrants aboard, will be the culmination..of a record year.,

for post-war assisted migration from Britain to Australia.

During 1964$ a record 65,-000 settlers will have departed

from Britain for Australia under the assisted passage programme.

This compares with a previous peak of 47,500 in 1963.
