M r. Opperman s a i d t h a t th e s h i p s had b e e n d i v e r t e d b e c a u s e

u n t i l a f u l l r e p o r t was a v a i l a b l e from YAMPI, i t was n o t known how

lo n g i t w ould be b e f o r e f u l l p r o d u c t i o n c o u ld p r o c e e d . One

v e s s e l , t h e " I r o n Y am pi", h a s s i n c e r e a c h e d YAMPI an d u n lo a d e d

u r g e n t l y n e ed e d s u p p l i e s . '·

The "M t. K e i r a " , Mr. Opperman s a i d , had b e e n o r d e r e d t o

r e t u r n t o S o u th A u s t r a l i a from W este rn A u s t r a l i a n w a te r s . The ■

"Mt. Kembla" had b e e n o r d e r e d from N e w c a s tle t o W hyalla an d t h e ,

"Lake C o la c " , v/hich c a l l e d a t C a ir n s to u n lo a d a s i c k crew m ember,

was a l s o r e t u r n i n g S o u th . N o rm a lly , th e "M t. Kem bla"1 an d "Lake ,

C olac" w ould have gone t o YAMPI v i a N o r th e r n A u s t r a l i a n w a t e r s . ■
