PRESS STATEMENT BY DR. THE HON. D.A. CAMERON, O.B.E., M.P., COMMONWEALTH MINISTER FOR HEALTH

TUBERCULOSIS ADVISORY COUNCIL

Technical aspects of the Commonwealth-State Tuberculosis

Campaign were reviewed in detail at a meeting of the National

Tuberculosis Advisory Council, held in Canberra this week.

The Advisory Council, which reports to the Commonwealth Minister

for Health, Dr. D.A. Cameron, includes the Commonwealth and

State Directors of Tuberculosis, other Commonwealth officers and

eminent private practitioners with specialist experience.

The chairman is the Director-General of the Commonwealth

Department of Health, Major General W.D. Refshauge. The

Minister for Health, Dr. Cameron, attended the opening session

of the conference.

The Council's discussions, which occupied two days,

were followed on Friday bj’ a meeting of Commonwealth and State

bacteriologists responsible for laboratory methods in

tuberculosis control. They discussed problems involved in the

diagnosis, treatment and control of tuberculosis.
