The Minister for Supply, Mr, «.Inn Hulme, said to-fay

that the 9th Meeting of the Rifle Steering Committee would

be held in Australia from November 7 to 15»

The Rifle Steering Committee, which consists of

representatives of Canada, United Kingdom and Australia,

has been set up to ensure interchangeability of the 7»62 m,m,

LL; il rifles manufactured by member countries.

Meetings have been held alternately in the United

Kingdom, Canada and Australia, and the last meeting held in

this country was in 1957.

Mr. Hulme said that 14 representatives, (Canada 6,

United kingdom 5, Belgium 1 and New Zealand 2),as well as

Australian representatives, would be present at the current

meeting of the Committee.

The meetings would be held mainly at the Small Arms

Factory, Lithgow, N„ 3, .. , where the 7.62 m.rn. Ll*l rifle is

produced for the Australian and New Zealand armies,

arrangements for the meetings are being made jointly by the

Department of Supply .and the Department of the Array.

Mr. Hulme said that the talks would cover

technical matters associated with production of the rifle.
