SENATOR THE HON. HARRIE W. WADE

IMPORTATION OF ORAL VACCINE.

The first consignment of Sabin oral anti-poliomyelitis

vaccine for use in Australia is expected to reach Sydney

from London by air next Wednesday morning.

The vaccine will be flown to Melbourne, for

storage at the Commonwealth Serum Laboratories. .

The vaccine will be held for emergency use.

The Minister for Health, Senator Wade, released this

information to-day. . ·

. . Senator Wade said the initial consignment of

vaccine would comprise about 250,000 doses of each of the

three types of poliomyelitis vaccine. A total of one

million doses of each type had been ordered.

Arrangements covering the use of the vaccine will

be considered at the meeting of the National Health and

Medical Research Council in Sydney in October. . -
