R.A.N. SEEKS TUG MISSING IN TYPHOON.

Two Australian warships have been searching the ' .

storm-swept waters of the South China Sea for a missing British

tug, KOWLOON DOCKS, which disappeared during the height of

Typhoon Wanda, ' · ·

The Minister for the Navy, Senator Gorton, said today .

that the anti-submarine frigates, YARRA and PARRAMATTA had returned

to Hong Kong after spending the week-end looking for the tug. ■

' News of the search was received at Navy Office in .

Canberra today from the British Naval Base at Hong Kong. The two

Australia^ combat ships, which are serving with the British · .

Commonwealth Strategic Reserve, searched an area east of Hong Kong.

Today's signal did not indicate the fate of the missing tug, which

was reported to have, lost her tow during the typhoon.

PARRAMATTA, commanded by Commander G.R. Griffiths, of

Canberra, and YARRA (Commander J.L.W. Merson, of Sydney) are the

two newest ships' in the Australian Fleet. They commissioned last

year, and a re■on their first tour of duty in South East Asia.
