Statement "by the Postmaster-General, The Hon. Alan S. Hulme

The Postmaster-General, Mr. Alan Hulme, to-day announced a

one-third reduction on the basic telephone rental for certain

people who receive an allowance under t h e ■Tuberculosis Act.

Mr. Hulme said that the same conditions of eligibility for .

the telephone rental reduction which operated in respect of

pensioners would apply in the case of eligible tuberculosis

allowees, in that the person must either live alone, live with

another pensioner or live with another person or persons whose

income did not exceed $20 each week.

Tuberculosis allowees claiming eligibility for the

telephone rental concession could obtain the appropriate

application form at any Post Office.

The reduction for existing subscribers would operate from

October 31 last, provided the application was lodged with in .

12 months of that date. In the case of new subscribers the

reduced rental would apply from the date of connection of the

service.

Mr, Hulme■announced also that concessional rate broadcast and

television licences now applied to tuberculosis allowees, on the

same basis as the telephone concessions. People satisfying these

conditions should make application at a Post Office when

renewing their present licence or when taking out a new licence.
