PICTORIAL FOLDER ON P.,PUa AMD NEW QUINE»;

Statement by the Minister for Territories, the Hon. Paul ----------- Hasluck.

The Minister for Territories, the Hon. Paul Hasluck, M.P. , to-day announced the publication of a pictorial information folder on Papua and New Guinea.

Mr, Hasluck said that the folder, containing thirty pictures, map and text, was the second of a series on the Australian Territories, prepared by the Department of Territories for distribution to the press, schools, universities, libraries,

tourist bureaux and business and commercial organisations,

Mr. Hasluck said that the main purpose of the folders was to inform the public of the work being done in the territories

by Australians and, in the case of Papua, and New Guinea, to

illustrate the manner in which the Australian taxpayers' money is being spent there.

"In 1959/60", Mr. Hasluck said, "the Australian taxpayer contributed £13 million towards the development of Papua and New Guinea."

Mr. Hasluck went on to say that a wide variety of interesting and satisfying careers were available in the Territory to young Australians and many of the pictures were chosen with a view to stimulating interest in this field of pioneering so close to home.
