WOOL RESERVE PRICES PLAN REFERENDUM

Statement by the Minister for Primary

Industry - The Hon. C.F. Adermann

The Minister for Primary Industry

(Mr, C.F. Adermann) today announced the arrangements

for the wool reserve prices plan referendum.

"The referendum will be conducted by

the Commonwaalth Electoral Office in accordance with the

provisions of the Wool Reserve Prices Plan Referendum

Act and Regulations.

"The purpose of the referendum is to

ascertain whether Australian voolgrovers generally approve

of a plan for maintaining reserve prices for Australian

wool sold at auction.

"Woolgrowers are entitled to vote if they

produced 10 or more bales of shorn wool in 1964-65 or if

they have owned 300 or more sheep continuously since 16th

September, 1965.

"A basic roll of woolgrowers was compiled

from sales made during 1963-64, containing the names of

woolgrowers who sold 10 or more bales of wool in that year,

. "Ballot-papers will be posted on 5th

November, 1965, to all those whose names appear on the

basic roll. Receipt of ballot-papers by individual

woolgrowers indicates that they are enrolled and need not

do anything further about enrolling. However, as the

roll is based on sales in 1963-64 it will include the

names of a number of persons who are no longer qua, lified

to vote, even though they.have received a ballot-paper.

will be considered as residing in New South Wales and

residents of the Northern Territory will be considered

as residing in South Australia",
