CMF OFFICERS TO VISIT PAPUA-NEW GUINEA

. Statement by the Minister for the Army, '

Dr. the Hon. A.J. Forbes

Australian. Citizen Military Forces officers from all States

will visit Papua-New Guinea next month to gain first hand '

knowledge of conditions in a tropical area.

Announcing this today, the Minister for the Army, Dr.

A.J. Forbes, said the first group of 10 CMF officers would

visit Papua-New Guinea between October 30 and November 12.

A second group of 10 officers would visit the Territory

between November 6 and November 20. . · ■ ·

Officers selected for.,the visit were potential commanding

officers who had no war service experience. ' ■

Preference had been given to officers who had not previously

visited the Territory or South East Asia. ;

Their itinerary would include, Port Moresby, Sogeri,

Goldie River, Wewak, Vanimo and Lae.

Both groups would accompany officers and men of the

Pacific Islands Regiment on patrols from Vanimo to Wutung.

The officers to visit the Territory are:

The selected CMF officers represented most of the major

Army corps and included armour, artillery, engineers, infantry,

service, medical and ordnance corps'.
