NEW DEPUTY QUARTERMASTER-GENERAL ANNOUNCED ;

A new Deputy Quartemaster-General h a s . been appointed at

Army Headquarters, Canberra.

He is Colonel C.F. Flint, who will be promoted to Brigadier

in December.

' Announcing this today, the Minister for the Army, Dr. A.J.

Forbes, said Colonel Flint would succeed Brigadier A.E. Ross.

. In Victoria, Lieutenant-Colonel F.H. Goodwill had been

appointed Commanding Officer and Chief Ordnance Officer, 3rd Base

Ordnance Depot (South Kensington). He succeeded Lieutenant-Colonel

C.J.F. McCarthy.

BIOGRAPHICAL DATA ■

Colonel Flint was born in Hobart in 1919 and graduated from the

Royal Military College, Duntroon, in 1939. During World War II he

served overseas in Palestine, Syria and Egypt, and in 1946 attended

the Sydney University, graduating in Civil Engineering in 1949·

After instructional and Staff appointments he attended the Australian

Staff College, and then served in Japan before becoming Chief

Instructor at the School of Military Engineering (Casula, NSW), 'in

1954. In 1963 Brigadier Flint assumed the joint appointments of

Colonel (Quartering), and Chief Engineer, Southern Command (Victoria),

and in 1964 became Director of Equipment Policy at Army Headquarters,

Canberra. Colonel Flint was awarded the QBE in January, 1962, for

his work as Chief Engineer, Southern .Command.

Lieutenant-Colonel Goodwill served in a number of Ordnance appointments

in Australia, the Middle East and New Guinea during World War II.

Further Ordnance appointments followed in the Australian Army, and in

1954 he was attached to the Australian Army Staff in London for

Special Ordnance training with the British Army, after which he was-

attached to the British Army of the Rhine. In 1 960 he was appointed

Assistant Director.of Ordnance Services at Army Headquarters.
