The public will be given access to Naval ships and

establishments, and will see ships and weapons in action, during

Navy Week in Sydney next month.

The Minister for the Navy, Senator Gorton, said today

that Navy Week would be held in conjunction with Sydney's

Waratah Festival, beginning on the 7th of October.

. Highlights, of Navy Week will include open days at

shore establishments, performances by massed Naval bands, and

demonstrations of techniques of Naval warfare.

The main demonstrations will take place on Saturday

the 12th of October at the Garden Island Dockyard. ' A submarine,

H.M.S. TRUMP, will dive and surface in the Captain Cook Dock.,

and Navy divers will give a display of their skills. A frigate

will fire her anti-submarine weapons, and there will be

simulated sea-air rescues using Naval helicopters.

■ Ships open to the public at Gard'en Island will

include the aircraft carrier, H.M.A.S. MELBOURNE, the destroyer,

VAMPIRE, and frigates, PARRAMATTA and YARRA.

’ Important Naval training establishments in Sydney,

the Anti-submarine Warfare and Radar Schools at H.M.A.S. WATSON,

will be open to the public on Monday the 7th of October. ’

During the week, massed Naval bands will give recitals

and lead the Waratah Princess Procession.
