COMMONWEALTH DEVELOPMENT BANK POST - APPRENTICESHIP SCHOLARSHIPS

STATEMENT BY THE HON. WILLIAM McMAHON. M . P . , MINISTER FOR LABOUR AND NATIONAL SlERYlCE

The Minister for Labour and National Service, Mr. M c M a h o n ,

announced today that the Commonwealth Development Bank had again

made available a number of scholarships for higher technical study.

The purpose of the scholarships is to enable skilled workers to

undertake further study for positions such as supervisors, technicians

or designers. The Bank has been providing scholarships each year

since 1960, and a total of 157 awards have been made so far.

Applicants for awards must have completed a recognised

form of technical training as an apprentice or otherwise, or be

apprentices who have completed the standard trades course but not

their indentures.

Further, information and application forms may be obtained

from Regional Offices of the Department of Labour and National

Service and from Capital City Offices of the Commonwealth

Development Bank. Applications close on 31st October, 1963.

Mr. McMahon said that with the industrial development

of Australia and the growing complexity of industry there was an

increasing demand for more highly skilled workers. The scholarships

were financed bjr the Bank in recognition of this demand.
