About ninety men will leave their desks* or factory benches

this week to sail a Royal Australian Navy ship across the Pacific

to Noumea.

They are members of the Royal Australian Naval Reserve,

and they will sail from Sydney next Saturday (15th October) in

g y r i n g the fourteen day cruise to New Caledonia, tlie emphasis '

would be on seamanship and engineering training. The reserve

training ship went to sea twice a year so that the reserve officers

and men could gain practical experience.

Senator Gorton said that the crew would comprise largely

men from Nevz South Wales, but there would be some reserves from

other states. The captain would be Lieutenant-Coiimander R.F.

Williams, who was a clothing manufacturer in Sydney. Other men '

in the crew would range from sales managers and bank executives

to insurance clerks and factory workers. ■
