FORESTRY SCHOLARSHIPS

Statement by the Minister for the Interior, The Hon. Gordon , ------------ Freeth

A number of Forestry Scholarships will be awarded by the .

Commonwealth for commencement in 1961, the Minister for the .

Interior, Mr. Freeth, said to-day.

The scholarships will be available to male students in

Australia wishing to undertake the.approved course leading to the

Diploma of Forestry at the Australian Forestry School. ' .

. The rates of living allowance payable will be £286 and £311

per annum respectively during the first two years of the course,

and £360 and £385 during the final two years. An additional

allowance of £104 per annum will be payable to Scholarship holders

who are required to live away from home whilst attending the

University.

Selected candidates will attend an Australian university

for two years followed by two years,at the Australian Forestry

School in Canberra.

Mr. Freeth emphasised the need for highly trained officers

to assist in the management of the forests of Australia. The

profession of forestry, he said, offered an excellent career in

an occupation of national importance.

Applications for these Scholarships will be received up to

December 19, I960, addressed to the Director General, Forestry

and Timber Bureau, Canberra, from whom full particulars are

obtainable.
