A u s tr a lia n E n g in e e rs and became a member o f th e AIF i n 1940. A f te r s e rv in g f o r

two y e a rs i n th e M iddle E a s t he was a tta c h e d to th e Branch o f th e M a s te r-g e n e ra l

o f th e O rdnance, w h ere, a s Deputy C h ief P ro v is io n O f f ic e r , he rem ained u n t i l th e

end o f th e w ar. L a t e r ap p o in tm en ts in c lu d e d th o se c f Commander, A lb u ry /B an d ian a

A rea and C h ie f Ordnance O f f ic e r a t One C e n tra l Ordnance D epot. He e n te re d th e

1952 to 1953 was p o s te d f o r exchange d u ty w ith th e B r i t i s h Army. On h is r e t u r n to

C olonel Is a k s s o n jo in e d th e AIF i n 1940 and se rv e d w ith d i s t i n c t i o n i n th e

M iddle E a s t, where he was aw arded th e M ili ta r y C ro ss. He s u b se q u e n tly se rv e d i n

Jap an w ith th e B r i t i s h Commonwealth O ccupation F orce frw n 1945 u n t i l 1948. In

1949 he a tte n d e d th e A u s tr a lia n S t a f f C o lle g e , and i n 1950-51 a tte n d e d th e Command

and G en eral S t a f f C o lle g e , F o rt L eavenw orth, USA. On h i s r e t u r n to A u s t r a li a he

became a n I n s t r u c t o r a t th e S t a f f C o lle g e , and i n 1953 was secern ed t o th e D efence

D epartm ent. He was a p p o in te d G en eral S t a f f O f f ic e r , Grade 1, H e ad q u arters 2nd

D iv is io n i n 1957. In December the fo llo w in g y e a r he was a p p o in te d th e A u s tr a lia n

Member o f th e P la n n in g S t a f f i n Bangkok.
