C.G.S ON VISIT TO SOUTH-EAST ASIA

Statement by the Minister for the Army, the Hon, Malcolm Fraser, M.P.

The Chief of the General Staff, Lieutenant-General Sir Thomas Daly,

leaves today to visit Australian Army establishments in South-Ease Asia.

Announcing this today, the Minister for the Army, Mr. Malcolm Fraser,

said that Lieutenant-General Daly would visit Vietnam and Malaysia until

November 17 for routine talks with Australian and Allied commanders.

His Vietnam tour would include a visit to members of the Training

Team, and he would also see the newly arrived 8th Battalion, The Royal ·

Australian Regiment, in Malaysia.

Lieutenant-General Daly had made two previous visits to South-East

Asia as Chief of the General Staff, in September, 1966 and March, 1967· As

on previous visits, he would again visit Task Force units at Nui Dat and the

1st Australian Logistic Support Group at Vung Tau.

He would return from Singapore to Australia on November 17» arriving

in Australia on November 18- ·
