Planning for Colleges of Advanced Education ' ·

• The Minister for Education and Science, ·

Senator the Honourable J.G. Gorton today announced that

■ preparations were almost completed for· the National Seminar

' on Planning for Colleges of Advanced Education which will ,

he held in Hobart from 6 to 10 November. ·

Letters of invitation have been sent to some sixty

participants in all the States and representatives from a '

number of firms of architects and interested national bodies

have been invited to attend the Seminar as observers.' .

Senator Gorton said he would·welcome suggestions from national

bodies and other interested parties if they felt participation, in the Seminar would be helpful to them. . '

A team of American consultants, under the leadership

of Professor James D. MacConnell, Professor of Education at

Stanford University, California, who are specialists in the

field of educational facility planning, will be responsible'

for the professional content of the Seminar. For the past

few months these consultants have been advising education

authorities in a number of States on the development of colleges

of advanced education, their largest project being the educational

specifications and the design concept for the Tasmanian College

' of Advanced Education. Their other activities have included '

advice on library development in New South Wales and on site ■

planning and library development in Victoria. ■ · ' . · ’ .

. ' Senator Gorton said that the main reason for the

Commonwealth sponsoring the Seminar was to make. the advice of

the visiting experts available to Australians involved in ·

this field on as wide a base as possible. ·
