IMPROVEMENTS AT MADANGĀ· FOR LIGHT AIRCRAFT

Statement by the Minister for Civil Aviation, Mr. R. W. Swartz, and the Minister for Territories, Mr. C. E. Barnes

The Department of Civil Aviation will build a $60,000 light

aircraft apron and taxiway at Madang Airport.'

This was announced today by the Minister for Civil Aviation,

Mr. R. W. Swartz, and the Minister for Territories, Mr. C. E. Barnes.

The Ministers said that work would begin soon and would take

about Six months to complete. .

They added that the apron and taxiway were needed to cater

for the ever-increasing number of light aircraft using Madang Airport.

The apron and taxiway would be designed to enable them to be

readily incorporated into a future main apron extension.

The Ministers added that the new apron and taxiway would

allow hangar development to go ahead at the eastern end of the

existing apron.
