Statement by the Minister for the Army, Dr. the Hon. A.J. Forbes

■ ■ The first Regular Army medium artillery battery in

Australia since World War II, will be raised at Holsworthy, NSW,

next month. . ·

Announcing this today, the Minister for the Army,

Dr. A.J. Forbes, said the new Battery would be the 104th Medium

Battery, Royal Australian Artillery.

It would come under the command of the 1st Division

Headquarters, at Moore Park, Sydney, NSW.

. Battery Commander would be Captain C.F. Dodds, the present

adjutant of the 1Oth Medium Regiment (CMF), Geelong, Vic. Captain

Dodds would be promoted to Major in his new appointment. ·

The formation of the new unit was part of the Army

re-organisation and expansion announced in December last year.

The Battery would consist initially of regular Army

personnel and would be raised to full strength by successive

intakes of national servicemen.

It would have six British 5-5 inch guns.

Other 5*5 inch guns in Australia were at the 10th Medium

Regiment and the School of Artillery, North Head, Sydney, NSW.
