Statement "by the Minister for Defence Senator ________ The Hon. Shane Partridge_______ ______ _

The Australian and New Zealand Armies will exchange

troops for training purposes between 16th. September and 5th

October. t

The Minister for Defence, Senator Shane Paltridge,

said today that the exchange would involve 140 men from each

c ount ry.

Two Hercules aircraft, one RAAF and one RNZAF, would

be used to move the troops.

The exchange, known as "TASMAN FOUR", would be the

fourth, annual exchange and would involve both regular and

citizen military forces of both countries.

The Australian party would consist of a half squadron

of armour with some technical supporting elements, and a

restricted infantry company. It would include 19 CMF members l

from Queensland, New South Wales and Victoria.

Training would be conducted in both the North and South

Islands of New Zealand, according to the type of unit.

The New Zealand party would be composed of detachments

from artillery, engineers and signals and they would be attached

to appropriate field force units for integrated training.
