NATIONAL SERVICE REGISTEATION

The Minister for Labour and National Service, Mr. McMahon, said today that the second registration of young, men for national service will commence on Monday, · 26th July, and continue until Monday, 9th August. Those required to register within that period

are British subjects, ordinarily resident in Australia, who turn 20 years of age between 1st July, 1965 and 31st December, 1965, inclusive.

Mr. McMahon emphasised that young men in this age group must register by 9th August even though they may not actually turn twenty until later in the year or may intend to claim exemption . from, or deferment of, call-up. . Anyone having doubts as to his

liability to register should enquire at the National Service Registration Office (for addresses, see below) or at any District Employment Office of the Commonwealth Employment Service.

Registration forms may be obtained from these offices or from post offices. Detailed information about how. to register and the main points of the national service scheme is given in these forms. ■

Mr. McMahon said that prompt registration would ensure participation in the ballot which would be held to select those to be considered for call-up. He made a special appeal for careful completion of all items on. the registration form. In the last registration some forms were unsigned and items unanswered.

This had led to delays in acquainting registrants of their position.
