Amendments to the Customs (Cinematograph Films) Regulations

Statement by the Minister for. Customs and Excise

(Senator the Hon. Denham Hent.y)

The Minister for Customs and Excise (Senator Denham

Plenty) announced today that Statutory Rules 1963 .No. 79

notified in Commonwealth Gazette Mo. 69 amend the Customs

(Cinematograph Films) Regulations. '

Senator Plenty said that the new regulations provide'

that one of the positions of member of the Film Censor­

ship Board he designated Deputy Chief Censor.

The Minister added that special prohlems a,s so dated

with film censorship, particularly in respect of the

theme of many modern films and the volume of television

films have placed a heavy administrative Burden on the

Chief Censor.

The new position is designed to ease the admin­

istrative burden of the Chief Censor and also to provide

assistance to the film.and television industry in that,

in the absence of the Chief Censor, the Deputy Chief

Censor will be available for consultation on a.11 '

censorship matters.
