The Royal Australian Naval College at Jervis Bay

today celebrated its Jubilee with a graduation ceremony at

which twenty-six new midshipmen joined the Fleet. .

Among the 600 guests at the ceremony were seven

retired Naval officers who were in the first intakes into

the Naval College fifty years ago..

Today’s graduation ceremony served as a

celebration of the Jubilee of the Naval College, which

was first established at Geelong, Victoria, in 1913.

The Governor-General, Viscount De L 1Isle, took

the salute at today’s graduation parade. The coveted

Queen's Medal for the Midshipman showing outstanding

potential as an officer and a leader was presented to

Chief Cadet Captain Ronald Maunder, of Tamworth, N.S.W,

Dux of the College was Midshipman Peter Hart, of Beecroft,

Sydney. '

Visitors came from all parts of Australia and

Papua, for the graduation. The guests included three

Admirals who began their Navy careers at the first College

entry fifty years a,go. They are Vice Admiral Sir John Collins,

Rear Admire.1 H.B. Farncomb and Rear Admiral H.A. Showers.

The midshipmen who graduated today will have a few

days leave before joining the flagship, H.M.A.S. MELBOURNE,

at the end of the month. . ■ . .
