PRESS RELEASE BY CLP SENATOR BERNIE(KILGARIFF

Commenting on Priority 1, the much-publicised phone-in service to the Prime Minister open to youth, CLP SEnator Bernie Kilgariff said in Darwin today, "it is heartening to see that the youth of Australia are being given the opportunity to be included in this type of communication with the Prime Minister, as indeed they should be. It is a most worthwhile medium through which young Australians can open their minds and their hearts to those who govern them". .

"I hope the youth of the Top End and outback areas take advantage of being able to participate in this campaign as,, given their rather unique situation in terms of isolation, their-input would make a valuable contribution."

"I would also hope that Mr Hawke's motives in staging the phone-in are genuine and, while I do not wish to appear cynical, am wary of lauding him too highly. If he is genuine in his attempts to reach Australian youth, we must challenge

him to come forward with some tangible, constructive results which will benefit the young people of our country", Senator Kilgariff added.
