Fourteen new road projects in Western Australia worth almost $330 000 were approved today by the Minister for Transport and Communications Support, Peter Morris.

"The largest project approved involves the construction of 17.8 kilometres of Onslow Road in West Pilbara Shire," Mr Morris said.

"It is being fully funded by the Federal Government at a cost of $125 000." .

Other major projects include:

$38 600 for construction of 7.25 kilometres of Mayanup - Tonebridge Road in Boyup Brook Shire,

$38 600 for widening of various sections of Three Springs - Morawa Road in Three Springs Shire,

$29 300 for widening of a three kilometre section of Mingenew - MullewavRoad in Mingenew Shire, and

$23 200 for widening of more than 5.5 kilometres of Bridgetown - Boyup Brook Road in Bridgetown-Greeribushes Shire.

Federal funding totalling more than $161 000 was also approved for maintenance works.

"Approval of these funds is another example of the Federal, State and Local Governments working together with the aim of providing a more efficient road system, " Mr Morris said.

"In a state the size of Western Australia, high quality roads are essential to the economy and quality of life.

"This financial year, the Federal Government has allocated $160.1 million towards road construction and maintenance in Western Australia, of which $25 million is for rural arterial road projects."
