APPOINTMENTS TO AUSTRALIAN BROADCASTING TRIBUNAL

The Government has appointed Mr Bruce Allen, a specialist in

media studies and communications, as a member of the Australian

Broadcasting Tribunal. Mr Ray Watterson, a member of the

Tribunal, has been appointed to act as Vice Chairman until that

position is permanently filled.

Mr Allen has wide experience as a communications consultant,

lecturer and TV producer in Australia and more recently has been

a policy analyst and communications lecturer in Canada. His

appointment is for a period of five years from 21 April.

Mr Watterson has been a member of the Tribunal since September

1983, and before that a lecturer in Law at the University of

Newcastle. The Vice Chairmanship of the Tribunal became vacant

upon the resignation of Mr William Armstrong on 31 March 1988.
